SAE 2007 World Congress New Tool Steels for Hot Stamping and Cutting of AHSS and UHSS Sheets. AHSS and UHSS pose high demands on tool steels, which can often not be met with conventional tool steels and conventional die construction. Tool steels and die construction have a very high incidence on the economy and viability of and they can also significantly influence the properties of the produced components. Some new tool steels have been developed by the company ROVALMA to allow the most demanding shaping operations with AHSS and UHSS without significantly affecting the associated cost. Particular interest will be given to a cold work tool steel developed for cutting and cold drawing of difficult sheets, application examples will be given in the most adverse conditions, where it becomes the only tool steel available capable of performing the job. Also a new hot work tool steel with outstanding thermal conductivity will be presented which allows to reduce total cycle time in press-hardening to less than 10 seconds (3 seconds closed die time), this tool steel brightens even more the future of hot stamping of sheet.
